The catch can and pcv plate are great for track, but if you drive a significant amount of time on street, they cause a lot of crank pressure, which is going to lead to gaskets and seals leaking. Many of us have learned this the hard way. BL version of pcv with a CC is usually pretty effective, but full mk8 retrofit is better. Keep the TIP stock. It greatly affects crack pressure.

Did you feel the need to intstall an aftermarket oil cooler? Im running a stage 3 GTI and after a few pulls the oil gets pretty hot. I'm planning on tracking it in the future and am wondering if I can just get away with a catch can system.

Code the VAQ diff to increased traction, this will essentially make the LSD work more/better :)

Do you have a video on how to install the catch can? Had it for a while and did not route the drain back to the turbo due to it seeming like a daunting task and not to much documentation on how to do it.

Good stuff! Sport dampers were a big miss here while you had it apart for springs...Koni or Bilstein dampers have seen a drop in lap time over the stockers.

How do you feel about this engine? That cam seems aggressive. I’m on the list to purchase one but keep thinking about the gm 430 then upgrade the cam just a bit.

Super common on DFI engines. My '14 Cayman S was all nasty in the intake ports. I ended up creating a catch can system to help prevent it from happening in the future.

Just goes to show you that lowering your laptime is not about power, it's about pretty much everything else!

How do you deal with the DSG auto upshift? Even with my 034 trans tune the damn thing will auto shift in manual. 034 told me it is a built in dsg safety feature they won’t turn off, but it is so annoying! I’ll drop two gears coming out of a corner because the car will auto “safety” up shift while I’m mid manual shift. Very annoying. 2018 autobahn.

I’d love to see the same comparison with a Mk8. Seat of the pants tells me that the Mk8 rotates better and more predictably than the Mk7.

I use track pads and for brake squeal I have tried so many different products that just don't work, or they work temporarily. However I have found a product that (for me) works long term (years) on street/track cars. Actually there are two brands and they both seem to be the same and I have tried both with 100% success. The products are: Gunk Brake Squeal Treatment or CRC 05080 De-Squeak Brake Conditioning Treatment . It is a very unusual product and is not easy to find, I have found it at Auto Part stores before but now all I can find is the CRC product and only online. It is like gray spray paint and you apply it to the rotor friction surface. I know what you are thinking but it burns off almost immediately and does not affect braking at all. The only downside is you have to completely remove the rotors to completely spray both sides, let it set for an hour then reinstall. If you want to completely eliminate squeaking with aggressive track pads, I am telling you this will do it, and it lasts for years. Apparently the squeaking comes from minor imperfections in the disk edge of the pad to rotor surface and with light contact this causes sticky hard pads to vibrate. This stuff fills in those imperfections and... It is funny the online reviews are mixed and this stuff is the only thing that I find works 100%. The only thing I can think is they are not applying it properly trying to do it without removing the rotors. I can't recommend this stuff highly enough.

I really want one of these cars but need to wait a few more years. As a 41 year old that's driven manual my whole life, I gotta say I'm kind of over it. I will likely buy an auto version of this car. I'm an avid sim racer, my setup has a clutch and H pattern shifter and I very, very rarely use it. Being able to left foot brake the whole time and just concentrate on my lines without dicking with heel/toeing simply leads to better laps and racing.

If you need a 3rd inheritor.. let me know.

The GRC is only good for a lap or two at a time before things start to overheat. It is not possible to put a hitch on a CTR. Those are both deal breakers for me. Maybe I need another new BRZ?

Brakes are big enough. All you need is DOT 4 fluid and track pads. You won’t have any fade.

Don't go to 5 Hz on ride rates. That's way too stiff. The spring rate of your suspension will be limited by the spring rate of your tire. You likely won't even want to be over more than about 3.5Hz, if that. The rear ride frequency should be about 10-20% *LOWER* than the front. This *IS NOT* a flat ride combo and you don't want flat ride spring rates if you're going to be on the track. Also, put bars on the thing and get a set of dampers that actually work. The bars can be done very inexpensively and the dampers are something you just can't compromise. Your best option would be an old set of Ohlins TT44's or Penske's or something like that. I bet you could find *something* sitting on a back shelf collecting dust if you called the enough shops.
